You know that book that everyone is talking about that you never heard of? For me, this book was Verity by Colleen Hoover. A group of friends had read it a few months back, and I decided to skip it at the time thinking that I had other things to read. Then, people in my book club started to gush about it, and I had no choice but to give it a try...and I'm so happy I did.

For a while, I've been searching for that book that would scare me. The book that would have me at the edge of my seat wondering what's going to happen next. One that would leave me open-jawed with a shocking twist at the very end. Verity was this book! Lowen was hired to ghost write the end of a series started by Verity Crawford following an accident that left her brain dead. In the process, she moves into her house, and starts research on the previous stories. While living in the house with Verity and her husband and child (Jeremy and Crew), she discovers more about their past than she ever wanted to. They are a family of "chronics" where nothing goes right. They're clearly plagued by death, illness, and all around bad luck. Lowen uncovers so many secrets, each one more horrifying than the last.

Verity was a real page-turner, and had so many twists and turns, that it was impossible to put down. The book was almost perfect, despite a slightly slow start. I gave this book 4 out of 5 stars.
