You know how sometimes, you read a book by an author and hate it, and you're afraid to read another? That's what happened when I read Daisy Jones and the Six by Taylor Jenkins Reid. I had heard good things about The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo but because of my intense dislike for the first book I had read (which also had rave reviews), I decided not to give it a try. This was until my book club decided to read it for June as an LGBTQ+ book...AND I'M SO GLAD THEY DID!

Evelyn Hugo is a star! Having a movie career that spans decades, it's hard to not have every moment of her life highlighted by the press. However, her story had never been told the way she had wanted it to be told, so Evelyn took matters into her own hands. She enlists the help of Monique Grant, a writer, to help write the authorized biography of her life, to be published after her death, under the pretense that Monique not settle for the first offer, but for the offer that would make her very monetarily comfortable for the rest of her life. What we learn through Evelyn's telling of her story is not just what life was like with each husband, but what really went on behind the scenes and who her one true love really was.

This story was erotic, funny, heartbreaking, and had a twist that I did not see coming! A true stand-out novel for the LGBTQ+ community, and one that I will recommend to anyone who asks! I gave The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo by Taylor Jenkins Reid 5 out of 5 well deserved stars! Oh, and with this book, I hit my GoodReads reading goal for 2021!!

Dates read: June 24, 2021 - June 27, 2021
