This was my second time reading The Nightingale by the amazing Kristin Hannah! I loved it the first time around, but loved it even more the second time around. This time, not only did I read it, but I also had borrowed the audible from my local library and listened along as I became immersed into this story of love, survival, heartbreak, hardship, war, anguish, and hope. I also chose to read it for the second time in anticipation for the movie in December.

Sisters, Vianne and Isabelle, are French, and are living in France at the outbreak of World War 2, and the rise of Hitler and the Nazi party. They both find a way to save people during the war, in different, but equally heroic ways. This doesn't come easy, as they lose friends, family, and each other along the way. I cannot and will not go into detail in this blog post, as it would do you all a major disservice to give away what happens in this fantastic novel. Kristin Hannah takes you on a very vivid, and seemingly real journey through the war. She paints pictures that will stay with you for a very long time, and introduces you to characters you will come to love as your own family and friends.

As a young Jewish woman, I always find it important to read books about World War 2 and the Holocaust, and I strongly believe that The Nightingale should be read by anyone and everyone. I gave this book a VERY ENTHUSIASTIC 5 out of 5 stars.

Dates read: April 5, 2021 - April 11, 2021
