Anyone who knows me knows that I LOVE Neil Patrick Harris, so when I found out that he wrote a series of young reader books, I just knew I had to get my hands on them. I was in luck one day recently when I found the second book at The Dollar Tree, and when I was at Barnes and Noble last weekend, I picked up 2 others. Additionally, I was ELATED to learn that the audio book was also available through my local library, and was narrated by none other than NPH himself ::swoon::. In just about 2 hours, I had torn thorough this delightful story of magic, misfits, and fun.

Carter, an orphan boy living with his appropriately named Uncle Sly had decided to run away when he realized once and for all that his uncle was up to no good. He ended up in the town of Mineral Wells at what can basically be described as a Freak Show Circus. Run by BB Bosso, a crook to say the least, Carter is at work figuring out all his tricks. He ends up finding his way to Mr. Vernon's where he meets a group of misfits. Together, they work together to save a precious diamond from BB Bosso's "disappearing" trick, and band together to form one of the best group of friends I've read about in a long time.

With a fun twist at the end, Carter has officially found a home, a family, and his group of Magic Misfits.

I cannot wait to share this book with my nephew, and to read the rest of the series. I gave it 4 out of 5 stars.

Dates read: January 17, 2021 - January 18, 2021
