One of my favorite shows from when I was a young college student was Pretty Little Liars and I just KNEW I would eventually have to read the series by Sara Shepard. After reading the first Gossip Girl and being mildly underwhelmed by it, I didn't go into this series with exceptionally high hopes. I have to say though, I was pleasantly surprised.

Not surprisingly, there were some noticeable differences between the book and the show. For example, Spencer and Ezra were both blonde in the book, but not in the show. Also, Emily's sister never makes an appearance in the show. However, despite these things---I was very impressed with how close to the books the series actually remained. I also didn't mind the character differences, as I just continued to picture the characters as they appear in the series. Other than that, I truly enjoyed the storyline, and the book ended made me want more. I am very excited to see how it all plays out on paper.

I enjoyed that each chapter focused on a different girl individually, but I know that the rest of the books will be combining the girls, as their friendship is bound to get stronger as the storyline progresses. For a YA book, I think that Pretty Little Liars by Sara Shepard is a fun read for an adult. I gave this book 4 out of 5 stars.

Dates read: April 9, 2021 - April 10, 2021
