People Like Her - Opinion and Review

I had just finished reading a very difficult book about WW2 and The Holocaust, so I wanted to give myself a thrilling break. To say I was mildly disappointed would probably be the best way to explain my feelings on People Like Her by Ellery Lloyd.
This was the second book I had read recently written by more than one author, and it left me with similar feelings. Maybe I'm not into that idea? I felt at times that the story wasn't necessarily coherent, and you could definitely tell that there was more than one voice behind the words.

People Like Her had so much potential, literally drawing me in with the first page. Until about 30% in, I was captivated, but then it started to dwindle for me. My love for books shows through specifically on my Instagram page, @fayeweinerreads, so I thought that this would be a thriller that would give me some personal feelings. I don't feel like I connected with any of the characters. Dan and Emmy didn't seem to have that realistic of a relationship, and their children kind of seemed like after thoughts to me. Emmy's stalker also started off strong, but then really lost me as the story progressed.
If anything, this book was a definite cautionary tale of being too open on social media. I remember when Facebook first came out. I became a member in late 2004/early 2005. You needed a college email address, and at the time, had to be invited by someone who already had Facebook. Putting my first and last name on my page was scary for me, as I had grown up being told not to share any of that information on the internet. Flash forward to now...I not only still have and use my Facebook, but I have 2 Instagram accounts (both using my first and last name) as well as this blog (which I do hope becomes very popular soon). Using your name online isn't a scary thing anymore, as that's how most people connect with you, especially during a global pandemic. However, despite sharing my first and last name (fun fact, Faye isn't my legal first name), I still am cautious to share other personal information. My address and phone number are not posted anywhere. Additionally, there is a lot of other personal information I choose not to share.
People Like Her is the perfect example as to why I don't share this information. Just be careful online. The internet can be a very powerful tool, and is limitless as to what it can do (hell, I found my husband online)...but it can also be deadly.
If you're looking for a quick read, go ahead a try People Like Her by Ellery Lloyd. I gave it 3 out of 5 stars.
