Sometimes, you have a book on your TBR for years and every time you go to pick it up, the weight of what you're expecting is too heavy. People rave. The movie smashed (even though you haven't seen that either). And Book of the Month provided it as a free add on for your first box. But yet, you're scared to start. This was Gone Girl by Gillian Flynn for me. Having read her other two books, Sharp Objects and Dark Places and not loving them, Gone Girl sat on the sidelines for years. This book took longer than I would've liked to finish, but I'm glad I saw it through.

Gone Girl took a bit to get started, in my opinion, but once it picked up, I couldn't put it down. I was completely enticed by Nick and Amy's stories. I could feel both the love and hate they had for each other. Nick's relationship with his twin sister, Go, was also very immersive. Until the big reveal, I had no idea which way the story was going to go. Amy turned out to be super twisted, and Nick was right there with her. The character development was great, and the book was a true page turner.

I cannot wait to watch the movie either. I'm not going to lie though, the reason I haven't wanted to watch the movie prior to reading the book was not because I enjoy books before movies, which is true, but knowing that Neil Patrick Harris doesn't have a happy ending really bothered me. I love NPH with all my heart!

Gone Girl was the turning point for me with Gillian Flynn and I do hope to read her future novels! I gave it 4 out of 5 stars.
