February started off with a bang with Before We Were Yours by Lisa Wingate. I've seen this book all over both Facebook and Instagram so when I decided that it was time for me to get off my ass and start going to the gym, I just knew it would have to be the first book I read on my kindle and listen along to while on the treadmill. My only regret---the tears I actually shed while working out.

Ripped from their family in a devious adoption scheme, Rill and her siblings are left orphans, trying to make it back home to the Arcadia, a houseboat on the river. New names and new families couldn't stop them from remembering where they came from. Queenie and Briney were their parents and nothing would ever change that... or so they thought. Fast forward many years into the future---Avery is from the prominent Stafford family, and is digging into her past, as her grandmother, May, is suffering from dementia, and is starting to have memories of things Avery had never heard about. With the help of her friend, Trent Turner III, Avery uncovers the truth about her family's past.

This story was beautiful. It was heartbreaking. I truly enjoyed reading this book and cannot wait to read The Book of Lost Friends also by Lisa Wingate. I rated this book 4 out of 5 stars!
